The banqueting hall is the architectural highlight of the New Palace in terms of size and grandeur. The square hall occupies the full width of the central building section.
The walls are decorated with unobtrusive white double pilasters and grey marble stucco-work, creating an unostentatious but dignified setting for festive court occasions. It is only in the upper part of the hall that the decoration becomes more colourful and elaborate. The crowning feature was a huge ceiling painting, which is no longer in existence.
